While everyone was shaking off the rust from the long wait for softball to start up again nobody came out of the blocks faster than That's What SHE Said. Not only did they pick up right where they left off last season, but they pulled out big wins fielding just 9 players in both of their double-header games! In their first game they never had a lead until the final inning when Mark smashed a deep 3 run homerun to tie the game and then held off a late rally by Spoons n' Scoons to win 20-19! In their 2nd game it was the ladies providing the power as both Trisha & Kelly hit long shots right to the edge of the forest in left field! They helped their team cruise to a 16-4 victory over Barking Geckos. Fielding just 9 players in both games however, it was That's What SHE Said's solid defense & hustle that locked up both wins. Congrats to Mark, Trisha & Kelly on each taking home this week's Players of the Week and Team of the Week honors!!!
In the first game of this blustery spring day in Seattle at Northacres it was Spoons n' Scoons taking on Barking Geckos. This game was a gritty performance for both squads as Barking Geckos held the lead for most of the game, but never to put it out of reach for Spoons n' Scoons who made a real game of it in the 7th inning by putting up 5 runs to tie the game at 9-9. There was still time left so the game went an extra inning & that's where the game got serious. Throughout the game it was Mike Bersos who crushed all 3 of Barking Geckos homeruns, but now it was the bottom of the 8th inning with the game tied at 10 a piece & Mike stepped to the plate knowing he couldn't use the longball again....with the winning run standing on 3rd he hit a nice shot, but the play at home was going to be close....Cristy Loftus of Barking Geckos ran as fast as she could from 3rd towards home and as the ball reached the catcher who went for the high tag she got a game-winning textbook slide safely into home plate to help Barking Geckos take home the dramatic victory! Congrats to Mike Bersos & Christy Loftus, this week's players of the game!!!
This weeks player of the week goes to the play-maker Lisa K. In a tight game that went down to the end Lisa K. came up big for her team. Lisa crushed the ball all day, hitting bombs to left-field and driving in runs. With the game 10 to 9 at the end of the 6th Chico's went on lock down on defense not allowing the opponent to score and entered the bottom of the 7th down 1 run. With a runner on 1st and 2nd it was going to take a big hitter to score both runs for the win. Lisa was that big hitter who hit a laser to left giving her a double, and giving her team a 1 run win in a tight game. Great game Lisa K.!
This weeks honors go the the squd The Crows. The Crows continually get better week after week, and could be a big threat in the playoffs. The bats are getting louder and the gloves are being put to better use, and with the instruction of a passionate coach this team is a serious threat. In the top of the 6th inning The Crows were down 7 runs, at a point where most teams would roll-over, but the Crows did not. With great hits and swift base running the Crows put up 7 runs and tied up the game, making their opponent sweat. Though they fell just short in the bottom of the 7th, after the game it was they went into a serious team huddle and took away the positives that are continually accumulating after every game. Great job Crows, and everyone else watchout!
This weeks all*star player is Alanna H. from the Buckley's squad. Alanna caused fits for the opponent on defense and offense helping her team get a big win in a tough game. Alanna was a gold-glove at firstbase catching everything that came her way, many of her catches she dug out of the dirt for outs. Alanna also went 3 for 4 batting with 2 hard singles, and one deap double that she jogged into second-base easily. Great job Alanna, and great game!
This weeks player of the week goes to Eric O. for his all around performance. Eric was a gold glove at short-stop, making tough plays for outs. Hisbig contributions were at the plate where he hit for the cycle and routinley cleared the bases knocking in runs. Great game Eric!
This weeks player of the week goes to Erin E. for her outstanding play in right-field capitalized by one rally killing catch. Right-field was a hot spot for hitters with the suns presence glaring, creating fits for the outfield and with the suns help allowed offenses to score lots of runs. Erin made a great catch in right-field that halted on ensuing rally and helped her team win the championship! Great defense Erin!
